Wildflower Season

| Alexandra Duemer

Residents are encouraged to get outside and appreciate the beauty of peak wildflower season (while practicing social distancing).

The wildflower program in DC Ranch, planned and implemented under the Developer Agreement with the City of Scottsdale more than 20 years ago, is a way to celebrate the unique desert setting. It has also become one of the largest native wildflower displays in Arizona.

Last September, Landscape Manager Ken Krause created a special DC Ranch wildflower seed mix that includes:
• Coreopsis (Coreopsis)
• Cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus)
• Wallflower (Erysimum capitatim)
• Bladdderpod (Lesquerella gordonii)
• Baby Blue-eyes (Nemophila menziesii)
• Red Poppy (Papaver rhoeas)
• Desert Penstemon (Penstemon pseudospectabillis)

Seeds were scattered in October so residents could enjoy wildflowers during these next few weeks. The careful planning, planting and propagating can be seen throughout the community due to the areas of desert where our seed mix has naturalized over the years. Click here to learn more with Ken.
