Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) Improvement Project: Interstate 17 to Pima Road

| Mike Gertzman

A construction project to widen and improve Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from Interstate 17 to Pima Road is slated to begin in early 2019. The project, which is needed to address growing traffic demands in the northeast Valley, will add one general purpose lane in each direction along the 13-mile segment.

The project also includes modifying freeway ramps and frontage road connections at 11 interchanges; constructing an overpass at the future Miller Road alignment; building noise or retaining walls, where warranted; and other improvements.

Two community open houses — one in Phoenix and one in Scottsdale — are being planned for early 2019 prior to the start of construction. Residents are encouraged to attend, meet the project team and learn more about the “design-build” construction process and schedule.
