DC Ranch Day brings Western themed fun

| Alexandra Duemer

Over 350 residents joined together at The Homestead to celebrate DC Ranch Day on Saturday, Jan. 26. The annual event served up Western-themed activities, music and food.

Residents put on their cowboy best and moseyed over for an afternoon of fun. The stage was set with live music by Chad Freeman and Redline who played an array of country hits. They were followed by some eye popping entertainment of a trick roper in action. Yeehaw!

Guests were invited to draw or write something special for a quilt project commemorating life at DC Ranch. They also visited the branding iron station to mark a leather keychain with a mini DC Ranch logo.

The buffet spread included hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, coleslaw and cookies. A vegetarian selection was also available. Fresh popcorn in classic and novelty flavors, like sweet prickly pear and jalapeno cheddar, was a big hit with all ages.

Last but not least, the resident pie contest received 10 delicious entries. Guest judges Alan Rodbell, Scottsdale Police Chief, a rep from Scottsdale Fire and Laetitia Hua, Miss Maricopa County, had the tough task of scoring each pie. After deliberation, Ashley Molbeck was selected as the winner for her classic apple pie. She won two tickets to the Uncorked AZ Wine Festival in Scottsdale on April 7.
