Join your neighbors and expand your palate with a wine tasting featuring varietals from Portugal facilitated by Owner of Wine Star Services and Sommelier, Inga Varney. Portuguese wine is the result of traditions introduced to the region by ancient civilizations, such as the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, and mostly the Romans. Portugal started to export its wines to Rome during the Roman Empire. The most well-known wine region in Portugal is the Douro Valley. This rich river gorge just outside the city of Porto hugs the Douro River, and is famous for its port wines.
Somewhere on a bottle of Portuguese wine, you’ll likely see the words “DOC” and “Vinho Regional.” The country is carved up into 14 different regions, whose wines fall under the “Vinho Regional” category. The most popular variety in Portugal and abroad are white wines, but there are also full-bodied red and more rarely rosé wines.
Bring an appetizer and bottle of Portugese wine to share with the group.

One of DC Ranch’s longest active groups, Grapenuts is a wine appreciation club where residents come together monthly to taste and share wines. Discussion usually centers on the wine region, the cost, and if it was enjoyable. With good, food and wine, the setting is the perfect pairing for socializing with your neighbors and friends.
